Ronald Kurtz, MD — President and Chief Executive Officer
Dr. Kurtz is a co-founder of LenSx Lasers, Inc. and serves as its President and CEO, the same roles he assumed at IntraLase Corporation in 1997. From 1999 to 2005, Dr. Kurtz served as Vice President, Medical Director at IntraLase.
Dr. Kurtz serves as a Professor of Clinical Ophthalmology at the University of California, Irvine, where he has maintained an affiliation since 2000. From 1995 to 2000, Dr. Kurtz was an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Michigan, where he established the Ultrafast Laser Medical Group. Dr. Kurtz earned his BA in Biochemistry from Harvard College and his MD from the University of California, San Diego.
Tibor Juhasz, PhD — Chief Technology Officer
Dr. Juhasz is a co-founder of LenSx Lasers, Inc. and serves as its Chief Technology Officer. Dr. Juhasz was previously a co-founder of IntraLase Corporation where he served as Chief Technical Officer and Vice President of Research and Development since September 1997. From August 1988 to March 1996, Dr. Juhasz was the Chief Scientist at Intelligent Surgical Lasers Inc., where he led a team that pioneered ultrafast lasers in ophthalmology. From March 1996 to September 1997, Dr. Juhasz held key research positions with Escalon Medical.
Beginning in 2004, Dr. Juhasz served as Professor of Biomedical Engineering and Ophthalmology at the University of California, Irvine. From 1996 to 2004, Dr. Juhasz was an Associate Professor of Biomedical Engineering and Ophthalmology at the University of Michigan. Dr. Juhasz earned his BA and PhD in Physics from JATE University of Szeged, Hungary in 1986, along with post-doctoral training at the University of Rochester and the University of California, Irvine.
Eric Weinberg — Chief Commercial Officer
Eric Weinberg is a co-founder of LenSx Lasers, Inc. and serves as its Chief Commercial Officer. From 2003 to 2007, he was Senior Vice President of Global Marketing at IntraLase Corporation, having served as its VP of Sales & Marketing from 1999 to 2003.
From 1979 to 1993 Mr. Weinberg served as various positions, including President of Steinway Instrument Co., Inc. — a privately held company that developed and marketed refractive surgery technology, such as the microkeratome, which allowed the development of LASIK. Chiron Vision acquired Steinway in 1993. After the acquisition, Mr. Weinberg was the Global Director of Refractive Surgery at Chiron Vision — ultimately acquired by Bausch & Lomb in 1997 — until 1999. In this role, Mr. Weinberg was responsible for the management of its microkeratome and excimer laser product lines and the global launch of LASIK.
Shelley B. Thunen — Chief Financial Officer
and Vice President of Operations
Shelley B. Thunen joined LenSx as Chief Financial Officer and Vice President of Operations in November 2009. From October 2007 to July 2009, Ms. Thunen was the Chief Financial Officer of TherOx, Inc., a venture-backed designer of a Super Saturated Oxygen Therapy System to reduce the effects of acute heart attack. Ms. Thunen served as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for IntraLase Corp. from October 2004 to April 2007. From January 2000 to January 2001, Ms. Thunen served as the Executive Vice President, Chief Financial Officer of Versifi, Inc. — a privately held Internet infrastructure software provider that was acquired by Reef SA/NV in 2000. Ms. Thunen received an MBA and a BA degree in Economics from the University of California, Irvine.
